This day and age everyone is looking for the ideal temporary or permanent job and then establishing a connection with your new boss. Once you have located & started the job it can be a daunting task depending on your own personality and career background.
Therefore in this blog/post we shall try and run through some tips for anybody starting temporary, permanent, interim or local jobs within any industry sectors. Let’s start at the beginning: The interview: Can you recall the Senior Manager or MD that interviewed you? Think to yourself how was the communication between you & the seniors. If the outcome was positive (should be) as you obtained the job – you haven’t got much concern. You have managed to get over the first barrier of direct communication – instead of internal calls & emails.
Short term is just polite communication; Long Term is building a working relationship. Just keep the interactions flowing on an ad hoc basis. This again all depends on your self-belief, confidence and personality.
Attempt to implement the following
Commitment: No employer in the land will take on new staff that do not show a level of commitment therefore show it at work with work colleagues, time keeping & liaising.
Communication: This has been highlighted in the post earlier – no matter what ethnic background you maybe communication is a must, direct, indirect internal calls or emails
Hard Working & Honest: one of the main reason he/she employed you is your skills & abilities. The trustworthy effort you make is essential to impress the boss and seniors.
Clear definition job role: This is the ideal opportunity to expand from the interview….Initial conversation…to more thorough discussions on new orders, agendas, tasks, business meetings.
Beneficial for the business In other words it works for both parties, though each may have different agendas and objectives. A saying that works “you scratch my back I scratch yours”
Suggestions: A slight extension to the above but if you have an idea that can benefit you in the short & long term, sit down with the seniors and boss BUT get it all in writing from a third party, as there maybe financial viable for all involved.
Carry On: Any shortfall here will dilute your efforts to work effectively in your new job role. Perseverance without being a nuisance and ask your new work colleagues for assistance.
A good relationship – one that works – encourages more trust and will tend to mean your responsibilities increase, which in turn gives you the opportunity to show what you can do and thus increase the trust… enough…will lead to more responsibility……more job status……career opportunities and ultimately what we all seek in a job money ( & security).
